Since the terrible fire in April 2019, the Christmas Market at Notre Dame de Paris has been held on Square René-Viviani. For more than 20 years, the Saint-Germain des Prés Christmas Market has been running successfully. Every year during the Christmas season, a tiny community of about thirty wooden Christmas chalets emerges in the shadow of the historic Saint-Germain des Prés church.

This Paris Christmas market is a lot of fun to explore if you’re looking for a large selection of artisanal things including scarves, leather items, and blankets. Additionally, there are many gourmet products available, great for the foodie on your holiday shopping list.

Visit this Parisian Christmas market hungry! Your mouth will be watering for crepes, raclette, and tartiflette. The potato dish tartiflette with bacon, onion, and reblochon cheese is a specialty of the Savoy (Savoie) region of the French Alps. Do I need to say more?

The Best Christmas Markets in Paris 2023

The Tuileries Garden Christmas Market, often known as “La Magie de Noël,” is the biggest of all the Christmas markets in Paris. This Christmas market offers a variety of handcrafted items, a funfair with games and rides, and delicious cuisine to savor.

Follow the aromas of roasted chestnuts (“marrons chauds”), waffles (“gauffres”), raclette, and Santa and his reindeer. At this Paris Christmas Market, local cuisine is in plenty. Have you ever had French cuisine from the Aveyron region, “aligot”? Mash potatoes, cheese, cream, and garlic are the ingredients used to make the classic French meal aligot.

When visiting a Paris Christmas market, hot mulled wine (vin chaud) is a must, but don’t overlook the beer and champagne bars. The Pommery Champagne brand has its very own Champagne Igloo at the Tuileries Garden Christmas Market. Take a taste of bubbly inside!

The Tuileries Garden Christmas Market is lined with 100 white chalets, each of which is selling one-of-a-kind crafts. The perfect location for holiday shopping!

An artificial ice skating rink in the middle of the bustle draws both children and adults. Rent some skates, and take a spin around Paris’ Jardin des Tuileries.

After taking a spin on the Ferris wheel, which is timed to the top of the hour with the sparkling Eiffel Tower, explore the fairground and try your luck at a few of the games.

The Alsatian Paris Christmas Market

The Best Christmas Markets in Paris 2023

The Alsatian Christmas Market, held in front of the Gare de l’Est, provides a flavor of the Alsace region right to Paris. Strasbourg and Colmar, as well as one of my favorite pâtisseries, kougloff, and bredalas, or Alsatian Christmas sweets, come to mind when I think of Alsace. The Alsatian market will be put up in Paris for the 40th consecutive year this year. Shop the booths and leave with the ideal Christmas present for the foodie on your shopping list.

The Gare de l’Est Christmas market is the next best thing if you can’t take a day trip from Paris to the Alsace region to witness how their Christmas markets are typically.

The Alsatian Christmas Market Info:

Dates: 1 to 17 December 2024

Métro: Gare de l’Est

Les Halles Christmas Market

Les Halles Christmas market, a recent addition to Paris’s Christmas markets, has roughly 30 chalets selling handcrafted items, mulled wine, and local fare.

Although the chalets are attractive, the main attraction is the enormous, lavishly decorated Christmas tree in the midst of the Canopée des Halles shopping area.

The Église Saint-Eustache church, a well-known Parisian church, is close by and is situated at Forum des Halles, so you can combine their visits.

Les Halles Christmas Market Info:

Location: Forum des Halles, 101 Porte Berger

Date: Mid-November until the end of December, however it has been absent for a couple of years; possibly, it will return soon.

Métro: Châtelet–Les Halles

La Défense Christmas Market

150 chalets make up the massive Christmas market along the La Défense Esplanade. The La Defense Christmas Market remains the biggest in the Paris region, despite the fact that this figure is lower than 350 in previous years due to the amount of individuals who still haven’t returned to their offices in this mostly business district.

Equally gorgeous are the holiday displays, lights, and decorations on the Esplanade next to it. Around 1.5 million people frequent this market, which opened its doors in 1995, during the holiday season.

The market’s breathtaking location in this glitzy business district makes the 7-8 minute metro ride from the Étoile/Charles de Gaulle station well worth your time. Additionally, you’ll find a wide variety of gifts ranging from trinkets to fine jewelry and leather goods, as well as well-equipped kitchens and restaurants serving up steaming plates of delectable Alsatian food and Spanish-style paella.

La Defense Christmas Market Info:

Location: Esplanade de la Défense

Dates: 16 November – 27 December 2024

Métro: Grande Arche de la Défense

RER: A (from Étoile Metro Station)

Bastille Christmas Market

Between the July Column honoring the Revolution of 1830 and the Bastille Opera House, on the Place de la Bastille, the comparatively new Bastille Christmas Market offers a cheery oasis of festive warmth.

The majority of the time, this very desolate stretch of pavement is utilized for protests, occasional mountains of garbage when sanitation employees go on strike, and sporadic construction equipment that needs a place to park. The Christmas Market offers both seasonal happiness and an alternative idea for how this area may be used more effectively.

In addition to a festive carousel that gives kids free rides and a variety of vendor stalls selling hot chocolate, mulled wine, snacks, and gifts, the Bastille Christmas market has an enchanting forest of decorated and lit evergreen and white bare-branched trees to soften the area.

Bastille Christmas Market Info:

Location: Place de la Bastille

Dates: 8 to 10 December 2024

Métro:  Bastille (plus numerous bus lines have stops here)

Gare Saint-Lazare

The 8th arrondissement’s Le Marché de Noël de la Gare Saint-Lazare, located in front of the Saint Lazare train station, has a contemporary appearance and atmosphere; in fact, some might not even classify it as a Christmas market. However, it’s enjoyable and festive, particularly if you enjoy Disney and Legos. Plus, who can resist the Champagne bar?

Gare Saint-Lazare Christmas Market Info:

Location: Front of the Saint Lazare train station

Dates: Unconfirmed

Métro: Gare Saint-Lazare

Alesia-Leclerc Christmas Market

The Alésia-Leclerc Christmas Market, located in the city’s 14th arrondissement, is one of the loveliest and least-visited Christmas Markets in all of Paris.

Around a dozen booths make up the Alésia Christmas Market, which is located in the 14th arrondissement beneath the Saint-Pierre-de-Montrouge (Église Saint-Pierre-de-Montrouge) church, which was constructed in the 18th century.

Along with modest tents offering a variety of goods, including handcrafted furniture, one-of-a-kind jewelry, and opulent clothing, there are Christmas-specific attractions like Father Christmas strolling about and Christmas illuminations.

Location: Place Victor et Hélène Basch, avenue du Général Leclerc

Dates: December 2024

Métro: Alésia, Mouton-Duvernet

Eiffel Tower Christmas Market

The Eiffel Tour Christmas Village aka Trocadéro Christmas market, gives you a magical experience you’ll remember for a long time, complete with Christmas trees, fake snow, and up-close views of the renowned “Iron Lady.”

This market focuses in delightful gourmet delicacies and freshly prepared regional fare. While you browse, look for the Alsatian and Savoyard stalls selling flavorful regional specialties and sip hot mulled wine.

This is one of Paris’s greatest mid-sized Christmas markets, and possibly the most photogenic, with roughly 35 chalets and occasionally a few food trucks.

Eiffel Tower Christmas Market Info:

Location: Quai Branly, across from the foot of the Eiffel Tower (the exact location seems to move around a bit each year, so don’t be surprised when it’s not where you remember from previous years)

Métro: Pont de l’Alma, Bir Hakeim

RER C: Champs de Mars or Pont de l’Alma
